VOJKA
Srem

---------------------------------- |
Vojka is an old village of Srem. Marks of human presence on today's Vojka ground came from far away past, first written notices are from 14th and 15th century, and we have proves of existing Vojka as village from first half of 16th century. Beggining of profound development of village as a community of people whose descendant even now live in Vojka we count from 18th century, after "Turkish(Ottoman) period", more closely - from constuction of first church made of solid material, provided with icons and books, in which educated priests served. Because of advantageous geographical position, in
that point of Srem, where settlement Vojka was to be build, even in far away past people
stopped and stayed for a while. Locality is 20km away from Danube river and about 30km
from Sava river. It's in southeast part of Srem, and through time it has adjusted as
natural crossing of roads which directed armies, travellers, pilgrims, brigands and
refugees from deep of Balkanian peninsula toward north and west part of Panonian
lowland or back from their .

Vojka in 20th century, today, and tomorrow Well, this what is offered to you to read is just my personal view of Vojka and probably other people, that live and have been or heard about Vojka, have similar or different opinions and views. First I want to comment this picture. It's old coach often seen in Srem few decades ago. It was also sign of recognition of Vojka, some part of people's tradition as that were old tools, crafts, receipts and specialy Vojvodinian granges, windmills and sweeps. |
Development of Vojka during this century reposed on individual farmers. They have a strong will to achieve best results and to earn more for their families. Farmers of Vojka were always very inteligent and in this century number of those who get well educated increased. After world war II in which patriots of Vojka fighted against fascists and ocuppators came good and peacful times for this little town. Good number of people from houses of traders and farmes went on faculties. This people organized in their hometown radio and TV when very small number of biggest cities in old Yugoslavia had it. And their always were fine scienceiphic and art activities in Vojka. There were eight colonies of artists before this now organized by Poljoexport. Vojka is interesting little town. It always had something that draw people in it. And everyone can confirm this what I sad if he or she had ever been on Vojka on celebration day of town's saint patron St. Nikola. Now this little town of some 7000 thousand people is geting on new stage by presenting it's history, existence and future by internet. Poljoexport's hometown now develops through many ways and although it saved it's traditional agricultural production, now it has new private companies which try to connect in to world courses.
